Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal, the Bristol Children’s Hospital charity, has announced its collaboration with iconic British game show The Crystal Maze, produced by Fizz, a Banijay Group company, for upcoming charity arts trail, Gromit Unleashed 2, and has revealed the exclusively designed sculpture that will be available for the public to visit this summer.Aptly named ‘The Brystal Maze’, the giant Gromit sculpture is inspired by each of the four ‘zones’ of The Crystal Maze: Medieval, Industrial, Aztec and Future. In each of the zones, Crystal Maze fans will be able to spot various iconic Bristol landmarks including Cabot Tower and the Clifton Suspension Bridge. The ears of the Gromit represent the iconic Crystal Dome found at the centre of the maze, with the nose as the coveted crystals that so many contestants try – and fail – to win on the cult TV classic.
Filmed at The Bottle Yard studios in Bristol, The Crystal Maze will return to TV screens across the country for its second series with a celebrity specials starting on Channel 4 on Friday 8th June at 9pm. Maze Master Richard Ayoade will guide a glittering array of fearless famous faces through a plethora of brand new games. Olympic legend Dame Kelly Holmes takes charge of grime MC Big Narstie, actress Jorgie Porter, internet superstar Alfie Deyes and fellow gold medallist Greg Rutherford on an action-packed journey to the Crystal Dome.
Earlier this month the team leading the project visited the show set to reveal the finished Gromit sculpture and met show host, Richard Ayoade, who also signed the sculpture.
Creative Director of Fizz Productions, Neale Simpson:
“It’s fantastic to see two icons of British film and TV coming together in our very own Gromit Unleashed sculpture and we’re very proud to be able to support this amazing charity. The design is also a fitting tribute to Bristol, which is of course home to the new series of The Crystal Maze. We hope the sculpture will prove to be as much of a crowd-pleaser as watching our hapless teams struggle to complete the maze!”
‘The Brystal Maze’ is one of over 60 giant Aardman character sculptures to be unleashed in Bristol this summer. The sculptures will be auctioned in the autumn in a bid to raise vital funds for sick children, babies and their families at Bristol Children’s Hospital.
